It's that time of year again!  Time for the Bakers to
go APPLE PICKING!!!  Let's go!!!
We go to Haight Orchard in Reidsville.  The people
are really nice and the prices are great.
We got Fuji apples which are
a great choice for both
eating and cooking.  They
told us they had a very small
crop this year and would only
have picking for three days.
The apples were big and
crisp and beautiful.
Last year  .......................................  and this year  ....  me and my beautiful daughter ! !
Last year  .......................................  and this year  .......    and many years to come ........
More than mansions, more than millions, more than anything money can buy,
Behold my joy, my wealth, my treasure; what a blessed Mommy am I.
My girls doing cartwheels.
Here are a few shots of Hannah teaching....
CUTENESS ALERT ! ! !

We went to our dear friend Shelli's house (which is always loads of fun) to see her
two week old puppies ! !  There are FIFTEEN of them ! !  They were impossibly cute.
We couldn't get enough of them.  The little ones were not nearly as impressed as the
big ones were though.  (And no, Daddy won't let us have one.)
09-05-09 UPDATE:

Lots of pictures to post today.  We went apple picking yesterday at the same place we went last year.  It was
so much fun; the kids love it, and the people who run the orchard we go to (Haight Orchards in Reidsville)
are so nice.  The trees are dwarf Fuji apple trees, so the kids can reach a lot of the apples without help.  It
was a great day for it and we brought home two bushels of apples.  First order of business was making an
apple pie, but now the rest of the apples need to be made into applesauce, apple butter, and canned apples.
 Lots to do!

Silas went to the neurosurgeon this week, and he is scheduled for surgery on September 16th, if all goes
well.  Right now he is lying on the couch with a 104 degree temperature, so we have about two weeks to get
over whatever has got him now, poor bug.  This surgery is to untether his spinal cord, and possibly try to
address issues with the area of his cord that is split.  The neurosurgeon said he has an uncommon form of
spina bifida,  and they must go in and see about untethering the cord before the orthopedic surgeon can
proceed with surgery for his scoliosis later this year.  He will be in the hospital for four to five days, and your
prayers are certainly appreciated as we all try to help him through this.  We all knew this was coming, and
have been anticipating these surgeries since he arrived home four years ago, but it's still rather daunting
now that it is upon us at last.

Maggie is learning to ride her bike without training wheels and is progressing.  She is not the daredevil that
some of my other kids are, and she has struggled some with this, but she is progressing.

Hannah passed her first maintenance test, and after passing her second maintenance test later this year,
she will be ready to test for her black belt.

Art is still awaiting progress on the contract for Motorola, but we are hoping things will be underway soon.
This is a big contract and very important to us.  The sooner the better!!

Canaan is a captain of his football team, and the first game is next Saturday.  He is middle linebacker,
whatever that is.  Just hoping he has fun and doesn't get hurt.

Jordan starts at Target this week, and is hoping to hear if she will be able to get her job back at the bank
again too.  It looks very promising, but is not a done deal, so we are praying that this goes through and
quickly.

We have had some nice, cool days this week, reminding us that summer will soon be coming to a close and
fall is just around the corner.   For the first time ever, I feel I have not had quite enough of summer.  The
seasons are certainly one of the most delightful things about moving to NC, and I never get tired of fully
enjoying each one to the full.
