Silas's back surgery. DAY ONE: A long, hard day, beginning at 3:30 am as we drove out to Charlotte to be there at 5:30 am. Surgery began at 7:00 am and lasted five hours. This surgery was much more difficult than the last one, and he had a lot of pain.
|
DAY TWO:
Not much better.
Physical therapy
came and made him
get up and sit in a
chair. Lots of tears.
Mr. Homer and Mrs.
Cindy sent him a big
Bugs Bunny balloon
that made it a bit
easier though.
DAY THREE:
Doing a bit better. Still
can't move his arms much
and lots of pain. Trying to
do a puzzle that Jordan
sent him.
DAY FOUR:
Slowly improving. Sitting
better and walking some,
but still not keeping much
food down. We found out
later that day that we were
allowed to go home.
HOME AT LAST! A hospital is no place to get well. Seeing Maggie and his other brothers and sisters was the best medicine for Si. We have a long way to go, but he's on his way.

The Tooth Fairy came for another

I love stuff like this. Here Canaan
found a grasshopper out back and
brought it in to show the kids.
Cuteness abounds.
Hannah's
Taekwondo school
was in the local
Christmas parade.
We all went down to
see her, and it was
fun. But very hard
to get a picture of
her from where we
were, and how fast
they were going.
Some pictures just need no explanation.

11-07-09 UPDATE:
This week was Silas's back surgery. More pictures on the November 2009 page. It's been a long week.
Today is Canaan's championship game for football. I wish very much that I could go and watch, but Silas still is
not able to travel, so we are here trying to feel better.
Hannah is at a Taekwondo tournament today, and her demo team is competing for the first time. Check back
later to see the results of the football and the TKD!
11-10-09 UPDATE:
No new pictures added really, just wanted to update. A sad end to a great football season. The Panthers played
hard, and really learned how to play as a team. They made it to the championship game and then lost by two
touchdowns. Canaan sprained his ankle in the third quarter, adding to the disappointment of the day. And I
wasn't even there! I stayed home with Silas and missed the game, and missed running out on the field to be with
my boy, which I think he is relieved about, but me, not so much. His Dad didn't even get it on video, and probably
would have had him tape it up and get back in there to play if it was up to him. My heart...
Hannah, on the other hand, won three gold medals on Saturday at her tournament, which I also did not get to
see and have no pictures of. She said it was a really fun day. Their demo team competed for the first time, and
they won against several other teams from NC and other states. The down side to the day was that she lost her
purse, which seemed to upset me a lot more than it did her.
Ready or not, Christmas is coming, and we are working away on our Christmas card. I am not panicking yet.
There is only so much I can do in a day.
Silas is doing much better, and I need to get some pictures. He is walking well, climbing stairs, and getting in and
out of chairs, albeit gingerly. He is not yet doing well at getting up out of bed, so I am still keeping him close. He
is standing much straighter, and I measured him to find he is a full inch taller now. I see this recovery is not
going to be short or easy. And he has been discouraged too. Can't say as I blame him.
It has now been a year and a half since Art was laid off. We have been very blessed. Some day I should write a
book about all we have learned, and all the ways that God has provided for us all these long months. Yesterday
I was putting away their clothes and was overwhelmed. In August I did not even know how I was going to dress
these children for winter, and without even asking or mentioning to anyone, over the past couple of months the
hand-me-downs have been coming in from dear friends. As I fold little sweaters and hang up dresses, I cannot
believe it; my children are better dressed now than before Art lost his job! Those who have blessed us know who
you are and my profound and deepest thanks go to you. In the midst of uncertainty, these things are so
encouraging, and remind us that God has not forgotten us by any means.
And check out the links above to Jordan singing. I love hearing her sing and play the guitar. Just had to share
what I get to listen to as I make dinner some nights. Someday, someone is going to fall in love with that voice,
and this bubbly, passionate, hilarious, beautiful, full of life girl.
