"You are still the one that makes me shout;
Still the one that I dream about.
We're still having fun, and you're still the one."
"You're still the one I want to talk to in bed;
Still the one that turns my head.
We're still having fun, and you're still the one."
"You're still the one that makes me laugh;
Still the one that's my better half.
We're still having fun, and you're still the one.
"You're still the one that makes me strong;
Still the one I wanna take along.
We're still having fun, and you're still the one."
"You're still the one that I love to touch;
Still the one, and I can't get enough.
We're still having fun, and you're still the one."
"You're still the one that can scratch my itch;
Still the one, and I wouldn't switch.
We're still having fun, and you're still the one."
We're still having fun,
and you're still the one.

Alynn's Movie List:

We love to watch movies.  These top movies
are ones we have watched dozens and dozens
of times.  We likely know most of the lines from
these as well.  These are not really in any
particular order, as it would really be hard to
choose, and our favorites change all the time.
Art's list would be most of these, with the
omission of Pride and Prejudice and maybe a
couple of others, and the addition of all the
John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies and a
whole lot of action and space movies and all
that sort of rot.  :-)  I will work on his list soon....

1.  Princess Bride -- all time favorite movie, a
classic, funny, romantic, everything I like.

2.  Pirates of the Caribbean, Curse of the
Black Pearl
(NOT the second or the third, with
stunk) -- a classic to be sure.  This is my
favorite Johnny Depp role.

3.  Mystery Men –  We love this movie, quote
it a lot, and have watched it dozens of times.  I
love the characters in this movie.  The Bowler
is my favorite.

4.  Nacho Libre   --a very silly, funny movie
with Jack Black. I didn't like this movie the first
time I saw it, but now I pop the CD in to relax
and laugh.  I have a lot of favorite lines from
this movie too.

5. The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill and
Came Down a Mountain
– Another charming
Hugh Grant movie, with some good English
humor.  One of my favorites.  The British are
funny.

6.  Willow –  One of Val Kilmer’s best roles. I
love this movie.  Full of action and fantasy,
humor and romance.

7.  Rocketman -  Another top ten favorite.
Very hard to get this on DVD though.  As of
last year, for some reason Disney had not
released it on DVD to the general public.  I got
my copy on ebay and paid about forty bucks
for it.  Love this movie.  So funny.

8.  Good Burger – Kenan Thompson and Kel
Mitchell.  It’s a Nickelodeon movie, but it’s so
funny.   Lots of good lines
.

9.  Napoleon Dynamite
– a classic.  What
can I say?

10.  O Brother Where Art Thou – This is one
that people often don’t like so much the first
time they see it.  But we watch it regularly, and
have the CD of the soundtrack too.  Lots of
funny lines in this one.

11.  Death at a Funeral -- hilarious British
humor, with great characters and a very funny
plot.

12.  The Waterboy  -- we watch this regularly,
as Canaan reminds us of Bobby, and I am
Mama Boucher

13.  My Cousin Vinny -- well, it's just so funny.

14.  About a Boy -- funny, British humor, Hugh
Grant

15.  Breakfast Club -- I am ashamed to say I
know most of this movie word for word, and
never get tired of it.

Other Favorites in no particular order:

The Chronicles of Narnia – enough said

Uncle Buck – great John Candy comedy.

Cool Runnings
– this is the John Candy
comedy about the Jamaican bobsled team.

Mr. Deeds – Adam Sandler in a good role.

Benchwarmers
-- funny simple movie

The Wedding Singer –  Adam Sandler and
Drew Barrymore again.  Another favorite and a
great romance.

Overboard –
Love this old movie.  Goldie
Hawn and Kurt Russell.  Funny and romantic
and touching.

Trapped in Paradise – You don’t hear about
this one often, but we quote it a lot around
here.  It is a comedy set at Christmas time with
Nick Cage, John Lovitz and Dana Carvey.
Funny and warm.  We have watched this one
several times, even when it’s not Christmas.

Only The Lonely –  Another really great John
Candy role, and funny and a great romance
.

Sense & Sensibility –
Chick Flick, Hugh
Grant, English stutter and all.  Nice romance
set in Pride and Prejudice time, but not nearly
as long of a movie.

Pride & Prejudice  -- yes, the original whole
five hours (not the new one).  Funny and
delightful.

Tombstone – A personal favorite of mine.  Val
Kilmer does an awesome Doc Holliday.

Catch Me If You Can --  It is based on a true
story and that's part of what makes it so
interesting.  Tom Hanks and Leonardo
DiCaprio.

While You Were Sleeping – Well, another
classic, and a great romance.

Lord of the Rings, 1, 2, and 3 - of course

Charlie & The Chocolate Factory (Johnny
Depp) –
I like the old Charlie movie, but I think
I like the new one even better.  Johnny Depp
added a funny touch to it, although I could
have done without all the introspective stuff at
the end.

Shallow Hal – Jack Black doing a great job in
a movie that makes a really excellent point.

The Mummy – a classic thriller.  The second
one was stupid though.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure – classic,
with lots of good lines.

Love Comes Softly – Well, this one makes
me bawl.  It’s like, a Hallmark movie I think.  It
has a nice point, is a great romance, and very
sweet, set in the past.

Holes – This is a good, satisfying story, with
good music too.

Galaxy Quest – Funny movie with Tim Allen
and Sigourney Weaver.

See Spot Run – Another favorite with David
Arquette.  Funny dog movie.

That Thing You Do – Tom Hanks movie about
a one hit wonder band.

Osmosis Jones –
Bill Murray and Chris Elliot
are so funny in this.

Roger Rabbit – another classic.  This is the
first video we ever owned, and Jordan watched
it repeatedly when she was two years old.

Second Hand Lions -- great, funny movie.

Bedazzled -- I only heard of this recently but
we loved it and thought Brenden Fraser did an
incredible job in it.  Very funny.

Last Holiday - Queen Latifah in a sweet and
funny movie

Elf - Funny Christmas movie

Christmas Story -  classic

The Nativity -  very well done; highly
recommended

Horton Hears a Who - a great remaking of
the Dr. Seuss story.  Very funny and an
excellent point to it.  "A person's a person; no
matter how small!"  Indeed.

Alvin and the Chipmunks - a favorite.

Ghost Town - some more great British type
humor.

100 THINGS about Alynn

Many people write "100 Things" lists, or "25 Random Things" or similar sorts of lists...  in some
ways people think this is arrogant, or self-absorbed or some such thing.  I don't know; I always
find the lists interesting when they are about people I know (and occasionally even about people I
don't know!)  I almost always learn something about someone that I didn't know before, often
finding out more about what we have in common, or about what they value.  There are things I
wish people knew about me, and I realize that many people really couldn't care less, but over the
past several months I have kept a casual list and added to it when I thought of things.  So here,
in no particular order, and subject to change, is my list of 100 things:

1.   I have been to China four times in five years, and each time brought home a child.
2.   I have been to Haiti six times on mission trips, helping at an orphanage, cooking, painting
murals, and other work jobs.  On three of the trips my husband and three young children went
with me.
3.   I have seven children so far, and am privileged to devote my life to raising, teaching, and
loving Jordan, Hannah, Canaan, Magdalene, Silas, Eden and Isaac.
4.   I have homeschooled for 15 years (since 1994).
5.   I think every Christian should ask God if He wants them to adopt a child, and if not, how they
can help someone else to adopt a child.
6.   I have very strong views about what church is supposed to be.
7.   I have very strong views about what education is supposed to be.
8.   I grew up in Ontario, then moved to Florida at age 18. I lived in Florida until 2006, married
there, and brought five of my seven kids home there. I live in NC now and love it here.
9.   I never enjoyed school, and went away to college at age 17 and hated it.
10.  I love word games.
11.  I love old game shows, and would have loved to be on one.
12.  I hate my dogs, but I love Jordan’s cat.
13.  I have been told I have strong opinions, but wonder what other types of opinions are worth
having.
14.  My favorite season is autumn.
15.  The only jewelry I wear anymore is my plain gold wedding band.
16.  My favorite way to communicate is through email.  I don’t like talking on the phone. At all.
17.  I don’t color my hair anymore, and I like the gray.
18.  I enjoy grammar and spelling; I would have enjoyed being an editor
19.  My “dream” vacation would be to go to Alaska, the Bristish Isles, or Greenland.  I have
absolutely no interest in going to Hawaii, or Australia, or any place tropical, even if it were free.
20.  I worry (panic) a lot and I know it’s wrong.
21.  I like to garden, but I’m not good at it.
22.  I don’t enjoy amusement parks much, especially Disney parks.
23.  I do enjoy living history parks and exhibits very much.
24.  My dream job would be to work as a character in a living history exhibit.
25.  I would love to do sound effects on Whose Line is it Anyway?
26.  My favorite music is Dan Zanes, Third Day, Newsboys, old Chris Thile, and Sam Bush.
27.  My perfume, which I wear very occasionally, is Estee Lauder’s Cinnabar.
28.  I consider myself shy and introverted, but I love the opportunity to do drama.
29.  I don’t care much about cars, but I do think the Smart car is about as cute as a litter of
newborn kittens.
30.  I hate to shop and always avoid it.  I don’t like to spend money either, even when I have it to
spend (which hasn’t happened very often).
31.  I am most pleased when someone compliments the behavior of my children, or if I can make
someone laugh or sometimes cry.
32.  I don’t eat any seafood.  It’s yucky.
33.  My favorite children’s book is “Even If I Did Something Awful” by Hazel Snook Hazen.
34.  I like to stay home, and don’t go out unless I have to.
35.  I hate to fly, but I think airports are interesting.
36.  I don’t think that race or where we were born matters, and has nothing to do with who we are
in God’s eyes.
37.  I think China is a very sad, polluted, and crowded place to go, with millions of lost and
wandering and oppressed people suffering greatly under communism, and far from God.  I am
puzzled when people say they enjoyed going to China, and wonder about what they really see
and value in life.
38.  I like to make up songs around the house.
39.  I had my tubes tied, and then untied eight years later, not because I wanted more children,
but because I thought it was the right thing to do.
40.  I have lost two children to miscarriage, and I grieve them to this day.  Their names are
Samuel and Elijah.
41.  The question I get asked most often about my adopted children is whether they were blood
related before they were adopted, and I can’t imagine why in the world that is relevant.
42.  I do not enjoy going to the beach at all, but I do think it is pretty to drive by.
43.  I’m a good cook and baker, but I don’t enjoy doing either much anymore.
44.  I think History is the most important school subject.  It gives perspective to every other
subject.
45.  I get motion sickness easily.
46.  I can play the guitar, bass, mandolin, violin, banjo, and piano, but I don’t play any of them
much anymore.
47.  Much of who I am, I owe to my husband.  He is more than my best friend.  He is more to me
than can be put into words.
48.  I was married at 21 and have been married for almost 23 years.
49.  I am disappointed when I don’t get email.
50.  I love black jelly beans, and red Twizzlers
51.  I hate conflict and avoid it whenever possible
52.  I have a penpal in Brazil who I have written to since tenth grade.
53.  I can wiggle my ears
54.  I think it is wasteful to spend money on fingernails, magazines, and decorating ourselves
(and many other frivolous things) when there are millions of people in the world suffering in
poverty that we could actually be helping.
55.  I would love to run a marathon, or even half a marathon, and am disappointed that I can only
do low impact activities anymore.
56.  I love reading biographies, especially of missionaries.
57.  In 1995 I lost 50 pounds.
58.  I am afraid to go anywhere by myself.
59.  I can’t stand kids who whine, and don’t know why parents allow their children to do it.
60.  I am flat footed.
61.  My favorite books of the Bible are Ecclesiastes and James.
62.  I use an electric blanket every night, even in the summer time.
63.  I can’t stand stressful movies anymore; I like romantic comedies, or better yet, just comedies.
64.  I find everyone on the Food Channel annoying except for Alton Brown and Guy Fieri.
65.  I like to watch shows about odd medical conditions around the world and how doctors treated
them.
66.  I have names picked out for our next adoption, but often doubt it will ever happen.
67.  I think it is dangerous to tell God what you will and will not do.
68.  My favorite animal is the polar bear because they are so strong and powerful, yet so gentle
with their young.
69.  I have cooked meals for as many as 200 people at a time, with little or no help from anyone
outside of my own family members.
70.  Our family has been involved in children’s ministry from 1990 to 2006, involved in everything
from teaching Sunday School to running sports leagues to being Directors of Children’s
Ministries.
71.  I edited and produced the homeschool newsletter for our county’s homeschool organization
of 350+ families, in which I also ran a monthly cartoon I drew.  Years later I still find my cartoons
on homeschool websites from time to time.
72.  I enjoy writing poetry and songs.
73.  I had four articles (and photos) published in a national music magazine when I was a
teenager.  I considered becoming a freelance writer.
74.  Growing up I always thought I would be an artist, and worked briefly in graphic arts before
deciding there were more important things I wanted to do, and that just because you’re good at
something doesn’t necessarily mean you are supposed to make money at it.
75.  I once slept the night in a stable.
76.  I’ve worn glasses since I was four.
77.  I enjoy British humor.
78.  I have written some children’s stories and hope to someday have them published.  I also
dream of writing other sorts of books someday.
79.  I worked ten years in banking and quit after my second child (Hannah) was born.
80.  As a family of five we lived in a 1200 square foot town house until Canaan was three.  We
also had one car, a Honda Civic two door hatchback.
81.  I volunteered one year as a tutor in an inner city, after school program.
82.  I delivered newspapers for several months in 2001.  It was interesting, but not worth it.
83.  We once came home from a vacation to find burn marks all over our house, a big hole in the
tile wall of our shower, and a Chihuahua sitting on our couch.
84.  Our family has made our own Christmas cards for 19 years now.
85.  I am passionately pro-life, and feel that issue takes precedence over almost all others.  I
think Obama (and many others) will be held accountable one day before God for all the blood he
has on his hands.
86.  I find the proofs for Intelligent Design to be fascinating, compelling, and inspiring.
87.  Our family loves to watch the Olympics from start to finish, also the X-Games.
88.  We used to own ferrets for several years, and they are adorable, but I don’t want to own any
more.
89.  I won first prize in an ice cream making contest once.  I made up my own recipe for “Apple
Crisp ice cream”.  I had never made it before, and haven’t made it since.
90.  I find talking with children is more interesting than talking with most adults.  Children have
fascinating things to say if you will really listen to them and not talk down to them.
91.  I would hate to go to a spa or have anyone but my husband rub anything on me! (and I don’t
see how anyone justifies the expense for that anyway)
92.  My favorite authors are C.S. Lewis and Dr. Seuss.  (but for different reasons)
93.  Every time I take a hot bath I thank God for it and pray for all those in the world who cannot
get warm, or may never have taken a bath ever.
94.  I find it incredibly gratifying to make food that my family loves.
95.  After going through three hurricanes, my husband and children and I all put a new metal roof
on our house in Florida.  It took about six months, and was a huge job.
96.  I think it is tragic that there are millions of orphans in the world today, and thousands of great
parents who are willing and able to lovingly welcome them into their homes, while huge, money-
hungry, government bureaucracies stand in the way making it as difficult, expensive and time
consuming as possible, and all too often altogether impossible.  I believe they will be accountable
for this one day.
97.  Living in South Florida I had my car stolen, my purse stolen, at least four bikes stolen, and
my house broken into, ransacked, and robbed (all at separate times).  But I have never been
mugged, so that's a plus.  (After the house was robbed I asked the cop if we lived in a bad
neighborhood for crime and he said to me, "Ma'am, all of South Florida is a bad neighborhood
for crime!")
98.  I know every episode of the Brady Bunch almost by heart. (yeah, not real proud of that one.)
99.  I am impatient, introverted, introspective, compassionate, melancholy, witty, creative,
occasionally sardonic, often sarcastic, loyal, pessimistic, faithful, uptight, passionate, fearful and
funny.
100. And in spite of all of the above, I know that God loves me, Jesus died for me, and the Holy
Spirit resides within me.  This is who I am and what I live for.

Now I'll start working on Art's list of 100 Things about himself.  I'm sure he'll be interested in
reading it!
What My Kids Think of Me (05-29-09)
1. What is something Mom always says to you?

2. What makes Mom happy?
Jordan:  fresh cut grass; Dad’s key in the door; everyone together for dinner; funny movies; witty remarks
Hannah:  She likes it when we like her food, or are otherwise happy for any reason.  She likes when her kids

Maggie:  tickle us
Silas:  tickling

5. What did your mom like to do when she was a child?
Jordan:  swing around a pole in the basement
Hannah:  She used to play in the basement, draw pictures and do crafts, make furniture and clothes for her
Barbies, play music, and read comic books.
Canaan:  play with one of her brothers, stuff with music
Maggie:  I don’t know.
Silas:  I don’t know.

6. How old is your mom?
Jordan:  44
Hannah:  44
Canaan:  44
Maggie:  40

Maggie:  She works on the computer and cleans up stuff.
Silas:  cleaning

10. What is your mom really good at?

16.        How are you and your mom the same?
Jordan:  We are often told we look alike; we both have glasses and pale, veiny skin :-).  We have similar taste in
humor.
Hannah:  We are both good artists and have an ear for music.  We are both conscientious and often look at
things the same way.  If Mom had had herself for a mom, she would probably have been a lot like me.
Canaan:  we like things planned out, things clean, and things organized.
Maggie:  we like make up  (huh?  not sure where that came from... I hardly ever wear any!)
Silas:  I say, “I love you,” and she says, “I love you" too.

17.        How are you and your mom different?
Jordan:  I’m fatter and probably more impetuous.  She’s more logical than me, and wants to be on time and plan
way ahead.  I also like some music and movies that she doesn’t so much.
Hannah:  She likes vegetables that I don’t like, and I can speak Korean and do a spinning kick.
Canaan:  I’m a little spur of the moment, like to go out, and eat large quantities.
Maggie:  I have black hair and she has like grayish and brownish mixed together.
Silas:  I’m a boy and she’s a girl.

18.        How do you know your mom loves you?
Jordan:  She tells me and she’s always thoughtful.  She’s honest with me and wants what’s best for me.
Hannah:  She goes out of her way to make sure that I am happy, educated, and taken care of.
Canaan:  She takes care of me like no other person and remembers things that I like and gets them when she’s
out sometimes.  Like Donuts!
Maggie:  because she hugs me and kisses me.
Silas:  because God made her to love us.

19.        What does your mom like most about your dad?
Jordan:  That he’s a good, kind, strong Christian man who loves God, her and us kids.  And his smile when his
eyes sparkle.
Hannah:  She likes that he is strong and hardworking and funny and he loves God and our family.
Canaan:  That he has control over situations and can fix almost anything.  Also he’s a good kisser… so I hear.
Maggie:  that he’s smart
Silas:  he’s big

20.        Where is your mom's favorite place to go?
Jordan:  To take a bath?  The couch for a movie night?  Outside having fun with us.
Hannah:  She likes to go to restaurants and church and outside, and the gym, but she usually likes to stay home.
Canaan:  Nowhere.  She likes it at home.  Maybe the gym.
Maggie:  to the YMCA
Silas:  to the restaurant

21.        What is one thing you wish you could change about your mom?
Jordan:  I’d wish she’d see herself more like I see her, and not worry about getting old or flabby.  That she’d stay
positive.
Hannah:  I wish she wouldn’t worry.
Canaan:  Sometimes she worries too much, which isn’t always a problem.
Maggie:  that she loves us even more
Silas:  to make her a boy

22.        What would your mom do with a million dollars?
Jordan:  Besides donate and pay off debt?  Probably some home improvements and adoptions.  Maybe buy a
house nearby for me :-).
Hannah:  She would donate most of it, then we would adopt some more kids, go on family vacation, buy good
foods, let the kids do sports, gymnastics, Tae Kwon Do, and probably renovate the house.
Canaan:  Get more children!  And maybe expand the house a bit, and definitely tithe at least 10%.
Maggie:  She’d give some to us.
Silas:  She’d give some to us.

23.        What do you wish you could go and do with your mom?
Jordan:  Pick out a wedding dress, a crib, a kitchen set, and living room furniture for me.
Hannah:  I always thought it would be fun for mom to come take Tae Kwon Do with me.
Canaan:  Shop, get a coffee, stay at home and watch Family Feud.
Maggie:  Go swim together and make a big whirlpool.
Silas:  play

24.        What is one thing you hope never changes about your mom?
Jordan:  Her being alive.  :-)  And her humor and sense of conviction.  Oh, and her loving me.
Hannah:  I hope she never loses her hope and ambition.
Canaan:  Her love for children and her cooking abilities.
Maggie:  That she’d never turn evil and never be mean to us kids and never go away from our Daddy.
Silas:  that she’d never be a boy.
