Our tour of Europe continues.  Here, we were on Austria.  We
made Weiner Schnitzel, only with pork.... (and no, Maggie is not
that much taller than Si.  He is standing, and she is kneeling on
the bench beside him.)
...  apple strudel, with lots of
raisins....
... and spaetzle, which is really cool and we may have to try again
because ours didn't turn out exactly right.
You make the batter and then you press it through a collander to
make little noodles.  Our dough wasn't the right consistency, but
it still tasted pretty good.
Whenever learning is occuring, a big mess is often not far away.
You have to be willing to put up with a mess if you want to
homeschool effectively.
The morning of Joy's surgery to correct her strabismus.
The "before" picture.
Waiting to be taken back to surgery.
One of many "after" pictures.  This i almost immediately
"after" and she was still feeling pretty rough.
Nothing that a fresh donut can't alleviate...
Both eyes looking straight at me for the first time....
priceless.
Pizza eating pizza.  Canaan really got a kick out of this.
Mommy's little bunny getting a pedicure.
What's wrong with this picture?  Count the wisdom teeth:  seven!  When
they were giving out teeth, Hannah stood in line twice.  Unfortunately,
when they were handing out free dental care, she was still in the tooth
line, so this is a hard blow for a frugal little girl.  :-(
Canaan's friends came over to make an Epic Meal Time candy pizza.
You can look Epic Meal Time up on YouTube.  Watch at your own risk;
It's kind of revolting if you ask me.
And bacon strips and bacon strips and bacon strips... candied of course.
Muscles Glasses enjoying the results.
And it is football season!!  Upward flag football time.  We decided to sign
up Maggie and Isaac this time.  What I didn't know when I signed them
up was that of over 200 football players, there are only 14 girls!!  What's
with that??   Maggie is undaunted though.  She'll show 'em what a girl
can do.    Here, Silas is reading a book during a game, and Eden is in the
background.  "Everything is so green."
It's pretty remarkable to see your kid reading chapter books and know
that you taught them that.  Sweet.
Do you see Maggie?  Are you expoding with the cuteness?  Look at my
sweet, tiny girl, with all these big boys.  What they don't know is...
... not only is she cute, but the Maggie can PLAY!  Canaan has been
teaching her football for two years now in the back yard with the other
kids.  She know more about football than I ever will, and see all these
boys in this picture?  Yeah, she pulled  that flag.  After the game I
asked, "Maggie, how many flags did you pull?"  She laughed and said,
"Well, I don't really remember; there were so many."
Daddy and Canaan are about to bust.
Tis the season... every fall we get these spiders around the yard.  I
forget the name of them, but we just call them zig zag spiders
because of the zig zag design of their webs.  We read that they can
make seven types of silk webbing.  This one set up housekeeping
right outside our front door and every day we get free science
lessons.  She is amazing.  We have watched her catch bugs, and
remake her web, and it is pretty fascinating.
And fall also brings sewing costumes.  Here I am trying to cut out
pink fabric for Hannah's dress.  I never thought I'd say those
words in my whole lifetime.  You'll just have to wait and see what
convinced Hannah to wear a pink dress.  And in this picture, you
can see why I don't get much sewing done.  Pizza loves to sit on
pattern pieces.
"What?"
This makes my heart smile.  Two little readers, and not only are
they reading, but they love to sit so close to each other and read.
 happy sigh....
And now for a little adventure.  Check back next week to see
what we are up to this week!  ....
Cousin Jessica, Eden wears her owl bag almost constantly!  She
loves it.  Now she wants me to make her an owl costume like this!
Ai yi yi!
My little shirtless boys playing football together in the backyard.
