Maggie has been learning to sew with a
sewing kit Grandma and Grandpa got her.
This is a little cat she sewed.
Peek a Boo!
Flowers from my handsome son!
A sketch of Silas by Hannah.
And Widsar comes for a visit!
What is a Widsar?  Well we first met Widsar when we moved into our first house, in Florida,
in 1995.  Canaan was only 3 years old!  And Widsar stood on our front lawn, a little 8 year
old girl in a red gingham dress, trying to see who her new next door neighbors were.
This is Widsar at about 11 years old.
I couldn't find an earlier picture.
She and Jordan were the same age
and became friends.  And Widsar's
three nephews who lived next door
as well, became Hannah and
Canaan's best friends!
Joey, Adams, Canaan, and Johnny.
Canaan and his best friend growing up, Adams.
So when we moved to NC, five years ago, we did not lose touch.  Widsar grew up,
went to college, and became a high school history teacher!  We are very proud of her.
And we were finally able to arrange to have Art bring her up here on one of his trips
back from Florida.  We are all having so much fun that when it was time for her to go
home, we asked her if she would stay a week longer and she said yes!
Fawns in our neighborhood.  awww...
The Yong-In International Tae Kwon Do Tournament was held in Greensboro this year.
Hannah competed in forms and in sparring.  She got a gold medal in forms, and a
silver in sparring.  She did great.  Unfortunately, I found out when I got there that my
camera was almost out of batteries, so I only got a few pictures.  Also, the tournament
was running several hours (yes HOURS) behind.  So she was supposed to spar
around 5pm and did not actually spar until almost 10pm, after working as a volunteer
all day since 6am.  She was exhausted.  We think under different circumstances she
certainly would have won the gold.  But we are way proud of her regardless!
Mathematical!
So one of the first things we took her to do was go to....
Mount Pilot anyone?
Hannah stopping to do a few chinups on a tree branch.
Me and my boy.
A pretty little blue skink we found along the way.
Strong little hiker!
I really love hiking paths like this.  It's one of my favorite things to
do and I don't get nearly enough chances to do it.
So what do normal people do when they come upon a snake in a
hole?  Poke it with a stick until it comes out, of course.
Because how else are you going to find out if it's poisonous
unless you get it to come out?  Ahhh... just a sweet little green
snake.  But instead of going back into his hole, he decided to
crawl down the side of the rocks, to the delighted, waiting
children below.
Apparently, it is very exciting.
This rock was pretty high up, and Maggie was scared to stand up,
and then I told her it was Wipe Out and she had to stand up or she
wouldn't win the $50,000!
Doesn't this look like so much fun?
An interesting lizard Hannah found.  Not sure what kind it is.
Hannah always has this same look when
examining wildlife, and she holds it the same
way, with her pinky out.
More wildlife... Canaan and a stick bug.
A stop at Andy Griffith's ice cream shop.
Homeward bound.
Until next time...
